Frequently asked questions
Why not just use the weather app?
Weather apps are built around temperature. Vellra is built around UV: the risk now, the day’s peak, and the next 120 hours, without making you hunt for it.
Do I need to create an account?
No. There’s no account and no sign-in. Your saved places and preferences stay on your device.
Is Unlock a subscription?
No. Unlock is a one-time purchase for unlimited locations and every widget style. No recurring charge.
Does it work outside the US?
Yes. The forecast is global model data, not limited to any one country.
Can I use it without sharing my location?
Yes. Deny location access and add a saved place instead. Vellra works the same way either way.
Where does the UV data come from?
Vellra receives modelled forecasts from currentuvindex.com, with uvindexapi.com as a fallback. Their forecast models may draw on NOAA and other sources. They are not live sensor readings and can be delayed, unavailable, or inaccurate.
What happens after I join the waitlist?
You'll get a TestFlight invite first, Apple's official app for testing iPhone apps before the App Store release. Apple caps how many testers we can add at once, so invites go out in batches. If the beta's full when you join, we'll email you the moment Vellra launches on the App Store instead.
